You got to bake a chocolate cake at least once in your life. This simple and classic chocolate recipe is the one to try if you are a novice. It never fails to impress whether a birthday, holiday, or any special occasion. What gift can be more thoughtful and sweet than a delectable chocolate cake? While many things can go wrong when baking chocolate cake and result in a dry and tasteless cake, or one that is too moist or wet, this recipe eliminates possible mistakes, or at least narrows down the margin of error, since it only requires a few steps.

This recipe uses a 9 x 13-inch baking pan to make a chocolate cake. Before assembling the recipe, grease the pan using a pastry brush dipped in vegetable shortening or butter. Don’t forget to grease the corners so it is easy to pop the cake out once it’s done. You can also use a non-stick vegetable spray if you have one. If you don’t have a pastry brush or spray, you can use a paper towel or clean disposable cloth to apply the grease. Make circular motions to coat the surface and the corners of the pan. An unused two-inch wide paintbrush can also be used in this case. Lightly coat the greased pan with some cocoa powder.

Before assembling the ingredients, preheat the oven to 350 degrees so it is good and hot when you are ready to pop in the mixture inside. Use an electric beater to mix all the ingredients. This will ensure that the dough is smooth and has a nice even consistency. Lumpy cake will not only look unattractive, it will also cook unevenly where some parts can be moist while other parts are dry. Do not overbeat the mixture, however, as this will toughen the dough.
